About the teacher
In their own words
I am a multi-instrumentalist, but I consider drums my main instrument. Alongside performing, I work in music production and live sound. In lessons, what matters most to me is creating a safe atmosphere, making progress and finding enjoyment in music.
Five stories about music
The teacher answers five FASOUL questions about their path, inspiration and view of music.
How and when did you realise that music was your path?
I noticed my inclination towards music while I was in primary school. I loved singing, played the djembe at summer camps and experimented with making music on various websites. Later, in secondary school, I began drum lessons and, a little later, guitar lessons. That was the true beginning of my exciting musical journey.
Did the people close to you support your choice?
My parents supported my music-making. They approached the hobby cautiously because drums are a loud instrument and I wanted to practise at home. I had to get quiet electronic drums and follow agreed quiet hours.
Which musical genres do you prefer?
I grew up with rock and its many subgenres, so that is the music I know best. I listen to bands and artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Queen and Jimi Hendrix. Of course, I do not limit myself to those genres – I also enjoy folk, soul, hip-hop, pop and more.
How do you imagine your future in music?
I study sound engineering at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and want to build my future around recording-studio work and live sound. I want to deepen my understanding of music and become a versatile musician – as an instrumentalist, producer and engineer.
What would you tell someone who is still unsure about trying music?
Being able to make music is special because it lets you express yourself, grow, meet new people and experience music in an entirely new way. Perhaps you will find like-minded musicians, start a band and step onto a stage; perhaps you will simply play along to your favourite music at home. However you connect with music, life gains new colours. If you are curious what it feels like to be a participant rather than only a listener, I strongly recommend coming to a free lesson and discovering for yourself how much fun playing can be.
