Music is one of the core parts of my identity; it is self‑expression and a lifestyle, a reflection of my inner world and a means to survive both positive and negative life periods.
Five stories about music
The teacher answers five FASOUL questions about their path, inspiration and view of music.
How and when did you realise that music was your path?
Music has fascinated me since my early childhood; I sang in school choirs. In 2004 I first heard bands like Linkin Park, Rammstein, and Nightwish, and then I realized I really liked the sound produced by the electric guitar.
Did the people close to you support your choice?
My parents did not oppose me playing an instrument, but they did not encourage it either; there were no musicians in the family, so my involvement in music is entirely self‑initiated.
Which musical genres do you prefer?
I am a fan of heavier music. Currently, prog is what dominates my heart (Toska, Tool, Soen, Leprous, Porcupine Tree, Arcane Roots...), and I feel the greatest nostalgia for 2000s bands (the whole Nu Metal variety) and the Swedish Gothenburg sound (In Flames, Evergrey). On the other hand, I listen to and am interested in any music performed with live instruments.
How do you imagine your future in music?
I am currently heavily involved in creative and musical activities with several collectives, so my future with music is unequivocal. Learning new things and new ideas while writing, recording, and performing live are also inevitable. I consider myself more of a music creator than a guitarist.
What would you tell someone who is still unsure about trying music?
Music is such a wide sphere that anyone who wants can find a place in it. There are countless styles, instruments, and possibilities, so I suggest daring to try what interests you. Who knows, you might discover a new and unique music genre? As Rage Against The Machine’s lyrics say: “It has to start somewhere, it has to start sometime. What better place than here, what better time than now?”
